Patent Litigation

Patent disputes are high-stakes, technically demanding, and frequently decided by the details: how a claim term is construed, how a royalty is calculated, how clearly the technology is explained to a judge or jury. I represent patent owners and accused infringers in infringement litigation, with a particular focus on cases where technical operating knowledge and financial analysis drive the outcome.

Rooted in the Eastern District of Texas

I began my legal career as a law clerk to Judge David Folsom in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, one of the busiest patent venues in the country. That experience, along with practicing from Longview in the heart of the District, gives me a working familiarity with the local rules, patent rules, and practices that shape how patent cases move here, from infringement contentions through claim construction and trial.

Damages analysis from a CPA’s perspective

In many patent cases, the damages fight matters as much as the infringement fight. As a CPA, I can engage directly with reasonable-royalty models, lost-profits claims, apportionment, and the financial data behind them, and I can work closely with (and, when necessary, cross-examine) damages experts on their own terms.

Oilfield technology

Much of the patent activity in Texas involves the energy industry: drilling tools, completion and stimulation methods, downhole equipment, production and midstream systems. My oil and gas operating experience helps me understand how the accused technology actually works in the field, which matters when explaining that technology to a court and to a jury.
